Transition elements of the Baltic Power farm foundations from Polish factories finish production. Construction moves offshore in January 2025

Smulders' Polish factories are in the final stages of manufacturing the key foundation elements for the Baltic Power offshore wind farm. These are the transition pieces that will connect the foundations to the wind turbines. Once assembled, they will set off for the transhipment port. Already in the first quarter of 2025, they will be installed at the first offshore wind farm in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea.

Energy Regulatory Office awards support for Baltic Power wind farm

The Energy Regulatory Office has granted support for the Baltic Power project in the form of a 25-year Contract for Difference (CfD). Under the CfD, the project owner will receive payments covering any negative balance of electricity generated offshore and fed into the grid, which means that the project will be compensated for the potential difference between the market price of electricity and the strike price of the CfD.

PKN ORLEN finalises its strategic partnership with Northland Power on Baltic Power project

​After fulfilment of the conditions precedent - including obtaining merger clearance - stipulated in the joint venture agreement signed in January 2021, NP Baltic Wind B.V. a subsidiary of Northland Power has subscribed for the shares in Baltic Power. The joint venture agreement provides for joint development and operation of the Baltic Power offshore wind farm, whose construction is scheduled for launch in 2023.

PKN ORLEN SELECTS STRATEGIC PARTNER FOR OFFSHORE WIND FARM PROJECT

​Canadian Northland Power Inc. will be PKN ORLEN’s strategic partner for its offshore wind farm project in the Baltic Sea. The Partnership will be responsible for the preparation, development and operation of the offshore wind farm with a capacity of up to 1.2 GW. Northland Power Inc. will ultimately acquire a 49% interest in the project, due to start in 2023 and scheduled for commissioning in 2026.

ORLEN SECURES GRID CONNECTION AGREEMENT FOR ITS OFFSHORE WIND FARM

Baltic Power, a member of the ORLEN Group, has signed a grid connection agreement with Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne for its offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. The agreement marks another milestone in preparations for the wind farm project, providing a guarantee that clean energy generated by offshore wind can be fed into the national power system.

PKN ORLEN: another phase of preparations for offshore wind farm project

The Company has commenced onshore geological surveys along the connection route for its planned offshore wind farm. The work will help delineate an underground cable route to transmit power from the offshore farm to an onshore power station. The survey will be performed in the municipality of Choczewo, where the transmission infrastructure will be built.

PKN ORLEN Selected the design company for its offshore wind farm in Baltic Sea

PKN ORLEN has entered a design phase for the construction of an offshore wind farm project in the Baltic Sea. A preliminary technical design and building permit design for the project will be developed by Offshore Design Engineering Ltd., a UK-based company with over 20 years’ experience in such kind of projects. The initialization of this phase of the project is the result of several months of wind and seabed geology data collection. Once completed, the milestone will enable a detailed project execution plan to be drawn up.

Environmental surveys completed by PKN ORLEN for its offshore wind farm project in Baltic Sea

​After 17 months of extensive surveys by a team of over 50 experts, PKN ORLEN has finally submitted an environmental report for its offshore wind farm project to be developed in the Baltic Sea. Having completed this stage, it is now able to seek a building permit, prepare a detailed schedule and define technical conditions for the project. The survey findings will be used to plan the project’s implementation and subsequent operation so that it optimally interacts with the environment.
