POWER OF THE BALTIC - Baltic Power launches new program to support local initiatives of Łeba

POWER OF THE BALTIC - Baltic Power launches new program to support local initiatives of Łeba

An informational meeting on the "Power of the Baltic" program, initiated by Baltic Power, an investor in the project to build Poland's first offshore wind farm, is behind us. On June 19 in Łeba, representatives of non-governmental and community organizations working in the city and on behalf of local residents were able to learn about the details of the initiative.

The program is an element of good neighborly activities carried out in the area where the investor is developing its activities, building a service base for offshore wind farms.  It assumes financial and substantive support for initiatives submitted by residents and NGOs from Łeba. Representatives of the local community can count on financing projects that will bring social, educational, cultural and environmental benefits.

One of the goals of the initiative is to strengthen local ties, create spaces for the integration of residents and support undertakings that are important in the life of the local community. From the funds set aside for the program, grants will also be available for ecological projects aimed at protecting the environment. The results of the call for proposals in the first edition of the program will be announced in the fall of 2024. The total budget for the initiative in 2024 is PLN 150,000.00. The program is directed primarily to foundations, associations, organizational units of the Łeba Municipality and entities working for the public good.

The Baltic Power offshore wind farm is the most advanced offshore wind project in Poland. The development stage was completed in September 2023, with full financing obtained from 25 international financial institutions. Baltic Power is one of the first projects in the world to install 15 MW wind turbines and the first in the world to have a significant portion of its turbine towers made of low-carbon steel. With completion in 2026, Baltic Power will be the first Polish offshore wind farm operating in the Baltic Sea, covering 3% of the country's energy needs while reducing CO2 emissions by about 2.8 million tons per year.
