50 turbines installed at the Baltic Power offshore wind farm. Key testing phase soon to commence
Poland’s first offshore wind farm Baltic Power – a joint venture project of ORLEN and Northland Power – confirmed successful installation of the 50th of 76 turbines. The crucial phase of mandatory power and infrastructure tests is about to commence in the upcoming weeks. The end of installation campaign is expected in the 2nd half of 2026.
Baltic Power project enters the final stage of its construction phase. As we are installing the last remaining turbines and proceed with offshore cable works, we commence extensive test and commissioning works, leading to integration and energization of offshore and onshore infrastructure of the farm and the first test power delivery to the national grid. These works are unprecedented in Poland and require the exceptional collaboration between multiple teams from our project and grid operator – comments Maciej Stryjecki, CEO of Baltic Power.

Baltic Power is among the first two projects that install 15 MW turbines manufactured by Vestas – currently the biggest model delivered by European suppliers. Each turbine, together with a foundation, exceeds 250 meters. The swept area of its 115,5 m blades is larger than six football fields. Baltic Power is the first project to use recycled steel in the top sections of multiple towers, which will reduce their carbon footprint by approx. 10%. Several nacelles of these turbines have been manufactured locally in Szczecin. The installation campaign is executed by Cadeler using a jack up vessel, supported by CSOV vessels.

The commissioning works are a critical stage of every offshore wind project. Besides the intense work of offshore vessel crews, there are multiple quality control tests, integration of operational systems and safety drills to be carried out. They are mandatory for the upcoming inspections, permitting procedures and certifications that involve numerous authorities and auditors. We have to ensure the utmost safety and reliability of the farm infrastructure before it becomes the part of the national power system – adds Jens Poulsen, Project Director and Board Member of Baltic Power.
The project is at the late phase (+80% progress) of its construction campaign. The current status:
- Foundations and transition pieces: 78/78 - works complete
- Turbines: 50/76 - campaign ongoing
- Offshore inter-array and export cables – campaign ongoing
- Offshore substations: 2/2 - prepared for comissioning
- Onshore substation and grid connection - prepared for comissioning
- Service base: operational, first operations phase contracts secured.

Baltic Power is the most advanced offshore wind project in Poland and the first to commence offshore installations. Once construction of the ~1,2 GW offshore wind farm is completed, up to 4 TWh of electricity will be generated annually, which stands for 3% of the current national demand. The farm is located approximately 23 km from the shore near Choczewo and Łeba, covering an area of 130 km2

Once the construction phase finishes, for around 30 years, a service base in Łeba shall become an operations and maintenance center of Baltic Power offshore wind farm. The project, developed jointly by ORLEN and Northland Power, has announced the signing of the first key contracts for the operational phase with a significant participation of Polish suppliers.
