Baltic Power launches second round of Transitional Compensation Payments for Fishermen

Baltic Power will begin a second round of compensation payments to fishermen under its Transitional Compensation Scheme. This next stage of the program continues the support launched in 2024, when nearly 100 eligible fishing vessel owners received compensation.

From 1 January 2026, Baltic Power—the company responsible for the construction of Poland’s first offshore wind farm—will begin accepting applications for compensation for 2026. The scheme is open to fishing vessel owners who conducted fishing activities between 2018 and 2023 in the area of the offshore wind farm under construction and its cable route (fishing squares N7, N8, O6, O7, and O8). The level of compensation will depend on the size of the vessel.

The Transitional Compensation Scheme was introduced by Baltic Power as a temporary mechanism to address restrictions on fishing activities resulting from offshore wind farm construction. It will remain in force until national regulations governing compensation for the fishing sector in the context of offshore wind development are introduced, or until construction of the wind farm is completed.

The second round of payments builds on experience gained during the first stage of the program. Fishing vessel owners who participated in the initial compensation round in 2025 will benefit from a simplified application procedure, limited to essential formalities, to ensure a smooth and timely payment process.

Applications may be submitted online or in person at information points operating during and after informational meetings organized by Baltic Power in Łeba, Ustka, and Władysławowo. The next meetings are scheduled for 12–13 January 2026.

The Baltic Power offshore wind farm, a joint venture between ORLEN and Northland Power, is the most advanced offshore wind project in Poland and the only one that has reached the offshore construction phase. Thanks to systematic dialogue with fishing communities and the cooperation rules developed at sea, no significant incidents affecting the safety of work at sea have been reported since the start of installation work.

Baltic Power will be the first wind farm to supply Poland with energy from the sea. With a capacity of approximately 1.2 GW, the farm will be able to produce 4 TWh of energy per year, which will provide energy for over 1.5 million households. The clean energy produced by the Baltic Power offshore wind farm will be able to cover 3% of the current national demand for electricity. The construction phase is scheduled for completion in 2026.
